Vladimir Putin’s top diplomat has just piled yet more flattery on Donald Trump hours after the US president called for the attacks on Ukraine to stop.

Trump issued a rare statement of condemnation for Moscow on Thursday following the Kremlin’s deadly assault on Kyiv which killed at least nine people and injured more than 70 others.

In a widely-mocked post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the attack was “not necessary” and ill-timed.

“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV,” he wrote. “Vladimir, STOP!”
