Ed Miliband locked horns with Wilfred Frost over exactly what is driving up the UK’s sky-high energy bills this morning.
Labour was elected on a promise to cut energy bills by £300 a year by 2030, while also making Britain a “clean energy superpower”.
But gas and electricity prices in the UK are among the highest in the world right now – so Sky News presenter Frost asked the energy security secretary just why that is.
The TV host suggested it’s because British energy companies are taxed at 78% on energy profits, which “pushes up prices”.
