You might already be doing your part to help the birds in your garden: maybe you’re feeding them food they love, or perhaps you’re leaving late-blooming ivy untrimmed over winter.

But according to Richard Green, a bird welfare specialist from Kennedy Wild Bird Food & Pet Supplies, we could accidentally be upsetting them with our Christmas lights.

Robins and blackbirds are particularly susceptible to the “false dawn” effect, he added.
