Fort Bend ISD's valedictorian switch makes a common problem worse

Valedictorian shuffle sounds like the name of a fun board game. A cool graduation gift.
But nothing is amusing about the switch-up of valedictorians in Fort Bend ISD. The district enacted a new policy that ranks all high school students based on the campus where they are geographically zoned, even if they attend another school.
It's a move that's already adding tension to this week's commencement ceremonies.

You've worked hard, made good grades and earned the valedictorian title. But because of this policy, a student in a magnet program across town who has never stepped foot in your school, but is zoned for it, gets your No. 1 seat. I'd be fuming, too.
