Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill would be bad news for Texas
President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” is turning out to be pretty ugly for Texans.
The president’s signature legislation, which he calls the OBBBA, would eliminate energy industry jobs, stifle innovation and raise the national debt. Even the oil and gas industry would suffer, while the mega-wealthy would profit.
Trump talks about boosting energy made in America, but he has pressured Saudi Arabia and its allies to increase oil and natural gas production, drive down prices and directly compete with U.S. producers. The OBBBA will only further discourage domestic energy production.

Texas oil and gas production is flattening, and permit applications for new wells is dropping. I’ve explained how U.S. drillers need prices higher than $65 a barrel to stay active, and while war fears in the Middle East briefly sent futures contracts higher, the ceasefire sent prices down again. Analysts predict prices around $60 a barrel long-term.
