Campaign to recruit new foster families must go on

John Lewis helped to put fostering services back on the map with its highly praised Christmas advert of 2022, and this was a platform that we – as a sector – could only have dreamt of. The most anticipated Christmas advert of the year dedicated its spot on the national stage to raising awareness of fostering. Unbelievable.

Almost three years later, the question is: have we, as a sector, capitalised on the momentum sparked during that festive period – or was the advert merely a flash in the pan, raising awareness but failing to create any lasting impact?

Well, as with many things, the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

Across Scotland, we have a growing need for more foster families, with recent statistics highlighting a shortfall of around 400 families needed across the country to provide safe, loving homes for children who, for various reasons, cannot remain with their birth families.
