Communities are leading the way in transforming public services
The recent Programme for Government (PfG) places emphasis on tackling child poverty, transforming public services, and building a wellbeing economy. These are not just political aspirations, but the ambitions of communities across Scotland.
This language is encouraging, marking a shift from "community engagement" to community decision-making. But to realise the ambitions of the PfG, we must go beyond policy statements. The real test lies in how well we listen to and build upon what’s already working in our communities.
Across Clackmannanshire and beyond, communities are leading the change. They are not waiting for policy change; but finding solutions through local networks and skills. There is a movement of initiatives across Scotland enabling people, including those experiencing child poverty, to shape the future of their communities, placing power in local hands. But are we going far enough and fast enough?
