Tackling the problem of babies born with drug addiction

We are facing a public health emergency in Scotland around alcohol and drug-related deaths and harms, which cause devastation to families and compounds generational trauma, often affecting Scotland’s most deprived communities.

Last month, figures obtained by the Scottish Liberal Democrats, under Freedom of Information legislation, revealed that more than 1,500 babies have been born addicted to drugs in Scotland since 2017. This must be addressed as a matter of urgency, and we welcome calls to the Scottish Government to spend more on tackling drug addiction.
