The good news just keeps coming for the Scottish airport some would do down

Prestwick Airport is clearly on the up, after a string of successes, with everything coming together for this vital strategic asset which some for political reasons have tried to do down, writes Business Editor Ian McConnell.

The good news on Prestwick Airport just keeps on coming.

The airport, which was rescued in 2013 when it was acquired by the Scottish Government from previous owner Infratil of New Zealand for £1, is clearly on the up.

It seems that everything is coming together for the Ayrshire airport right now.

And, while good fortune in business is obviously important across sectors, planning and investment are absolutely crucial, as has been amply demonstrated by the airport’s recent success.

During an airside tour at Prestwick Airport on a bright but cold day in February, head of cargo operations Nico Le Roux spoke enthusiastically about its strengths and highlighted the scale and nature of the investment that had been going on.

On the tour, during which he discussed and demonstrated the airport’s many attributes and the scale of the aerospace cluster in and around it, he flagged the substantial investment in chillers and underlined the airport’s capacity to handle seafood exports.
