Harvest, Humility and Sharing

Harud in Kashmir is not merely a season; it is a feeling that enters quietly, carrying the smell of ripe paddy, apples, walnuts and almonds. The mornings become colder, the mountains look a little more distant, and the fields turn from green to gold. In the orchards, apples hang like little lamps, walnuts fall heavily to the ground, and almonds dry in the courtyards. But the chinar tells the deepest story. Its leaves begin to change slowly—green into yellow, yellow into copper, and finally into crimson red. For generations, Kashmiris have watched this transformation as a calendar written by nature, marking the arrival of the harvest season.

Harud is the season when the valley bends its back—not in burden, but in gratitude. The paddy fields, once flooded and green, now stand golden and heavy. Men, women and children walk into........
