Is our biological data safe?

Cybersecurity is considered a multifaceted problem that has a major impact on the social, economic, and political well-being of society. Cybersecurity breaches are now the new normal, which can potentially alter the smooth functioning of modern societies as we have become more dependent on cyber systems. In the current global scenario, cybersecurity is considered vital for national security and data safety. Keeping in view the gravity of the situation, the Government of India has initiated a number of initiatives to sensitise the population about the consequences of cyber frauds and how to prevent such breaches. In this connection, special training programmes are being conducted by the Department of Higher Education at different levels for the benefit of faculty, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity awareness. I was part of one of the short-term programmes on cybersecurity conducted by MMTTC, University of Kashmir, from 22nd Dec., 2025 to 29th Dec., 2025. During the eight days of this course, we learnt comprehensive and detailed aspects of cybersecurity and were able to interact with eminent experts. As part of the assignment, I delivered my presentation titled “Is Our Biological Data Safe? Cyberbiosecurity Vulnerabilities.” Keeping in view the importance of cybersecurity for the protection of biological and molecular data, I will delve into some of the important cyberbiosecurity vulnerabilities we are currently facing.
