CFO bridge: Making senior financial leadership accessible to India’s SMEs

For a growing business, the first sign that it needs a CFO rarely appears in the finance department. It shows up when revenue is rising but cash is not, when monthly numbers arrive weeks too late, or when a promoter is still answering financial questions late into the night. By then, the business may already be operating beyond the limits of informal financial management.

This is the gap Srinivasan V., Founder & CEO of CFO Bridge, set out to address in 2012. After hearing founder friends speak about needing the financial leadership of a seasoned corporate CFO but being unable to justify the cost, he saw an opportunity to make senior financial expertise more accessible to India’s SMEs.

Fourteen years later, CFO Bridge has grown into one of India’s largest CFO advisory platforms for SMEs, with 120 active clients, 45 CFO partners and 25 CA employees. Nearly 400 businesses have been served since its inception. What began as a response to a talent and affordability gap has evolved into a broader operating discipline for businesses navigating scale, cash protection and governance.

CFO Bridge was built around a straightforward premise: SMEs should be able to access the strategic judgment of experienced financial leaders without carrying the cost of a conventional full-time hire.

The model took time to establish. One early challenge was convincing businesses that its CFO partners could deliver the rigor of a full-time CFO without the associated cost. It took nearly a decade to prove that proposition.

Today, the company organizes its services around the stage a business is at rather than a generic finance menu. Scaling businesses can access cash collection, working capital management, FP&A and MIS reporting. Those facing cash pressure can focus on working-capital and cash-flow........
