Opinion: Don’t fight protectionism with protectionism
Forcing Nutrien to export potash via Vancouver instead of the U.S. would hurt it in Asian markets and could reduce jobs and incomes at home

Last week, Saskatchewan-based fertilizer company Nutrien announced plans to build a $1-billion potash export terminal in Washington state, raising the ire of the Carney government. Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon said Saskatchewan potash should be exported from Canadian ports, and his government hopes to persuade Nutrien to change course and invest in Canada.
