How PMOI Resistance Units Are Answering The NCRI’s Call For A New Iran – OpEd

On February 28, 2026, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) announced the formation of a Provisional Government, providing a clear roadmap to transfer sovereignty back to the Iranian people. Simultaneously, the network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) inside the country, the Resistance Units, took to the streets, projecting a powerful message of readiness and defiance.

Unprecedented bravery in the face of repression

Welcoming the NCRI’s announcement regarding the provisional government for the establishment of a democratic republic, Resistance Units carried out 31 daring operations across Tehran and 18 other cities, including Karaj, Mashhad, Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Ahvaz. These operations systematically targeted the regime’s centers of suppression, corruption, and propaganda.

Activists set fire to Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Basij bases in cities like Tehran, Fardis, Falavarjan, and Ahvaz. In Chenaran, they targeted the headquarters of the Khomeini Foundation, a state-run entity engaged in the corruption and plundering of public assets. Furthermore, Resistance Units torched propaganda billboards of regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini, the espionage branch of the IRGC, and the now-slain supreme leader Ali Khamenei in places like Nimruz and Shiraz.

Operating inside Iran and demonstrating any support for the NCRI and PMOI carries the immediate threat of harsh torture and the death penalty. Just months ago, during the massive nationwide uprisings of December 2025 and January 2026, the regime only managed to maintain its hold on power through the brutal massacre of thousands of protesters.

Following the recent external military strikes, the regime’s security apparatus was placed on high alert. Despite these heightened security measures and the ever-present shadow of execution, PMOI Resistance Units executed a coordinated campaign of public defiance across multiple provinces, demonstrating an unparalleled level of bravery.

Echoing the call for a democratic republic: “Neither shah nor mullahs”

The Resistance Units are not merely fighting against the current theocracy; they are actively championing a highly organized democratic alternative. During their operations, activists boldly chanted: “Down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the supreme leader!” alongside “Salute to Rajavi!”

In the cities of Shiraz, Tabriz, Qazvin, and Khorramabad, activists openly held up signs bearing the emblem of the National Liberation Army of Iran (NLA) with the message, “The NLA will return.” In Shiraz, they installed photos of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi in public spaces, displaying messages that challenged both the ruling clerics and the deposed monarchy: “Let the world know Massoud is our leader” and “The democratic revolution cannot be hijacked.” These actions directly support the NCRI’s Provisional Government and Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which mandates the dissolution of the IRGC, abolishes the death penalty, guarantees gender equality, and rejects absolute clerical rule (velayat-e faqih).

The ultimate solution belongs to the Iranian people

While foreign strikes have severely weakened the regime, the Resistance maintains that the ultimate downfall of religious fascism will be achieved from within. As explosions echoed across Iran, NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi released an urgent message directing focus to the safety of ordinary citizens.

She called on the public and Resistance Units to “care for civilians and the general public, particularly children and the elderly.” Mrs. Rajavi identified the clerical regime’s illicit nuclear and missile programs—first exposed by the Iranian Resistance three decades ago—as the root cause of the conflict.

She unequivocally declared: “Iran is not its regime. Iran is its people. No future for Iran can be realized from the outside; it can only be built by the Iranian people themselves.” The bold operations of the PMOI Resistance Units across the country prove that the Iranian people possess the legitimacy, courage, and organized capability to overthrow the regime and determine their own destiny.
