Kargil War Was a Hard-Fought Victory: In 1999, Indian forces successfully evicted Pakistani intruders from strategic heights in extreme high-altitude conditions, at the cost of 527 lives, showcasing exceptional bravery and endurance during Operation Vijay.

The War Led to Major Defence Reforms: The Kargil Review Committee’s recommendations resulted in significant changes, including the creation of the CDS post, NTRO, NIA, improved intelligence, border management (“One Border, One Force”), and greater integration between the Ministry of Defence and the armed forces.

Legacy and Commemoration: Kargil Vijay Diwas continues to be observed as a symbol of national resilience and military pride, with this year’s events including a commemorative motorcycle expedition from Delhi to Dras, while the conflict also shifted India’s global standing and strained India-Pakistan relations.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of “Operation Vijay” – a decisive win of the Indian armed forces against Pakistan that culminated in the successful eviction of heavily armed Pakistani soldiers who after infiltrating across the Line of Control (LoC) had occupied  strategic mountain heights in the Kargil sector of J&K.

This victory wasn’t a cakewalk. On the contrary, as it entailed overwhelming a well entrenched enemy perched on unassailable mountain tops in high altitudes, hostile terrain, freezing cold and harsh climatic conditions. This task thus demanded stretching physical and mental capabilities of the rank and file beyond known limits of human endurance and triumph came at very heavy human cost.

It is therefore, our solemn duty to remember the valiant members of the Indian armed forces who did us proud and pay tribute to the 527 brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice. It is therefore gratifying to see that this........
