As Edmontonians, we are worried that the proposed map tells the wrong story about our city and risks diluting our representation in the legislature. To understand why, we need to understand the three pillars of a fair and effective electoral map.
First, electoral maps should adhere closely to the principle of representation by population. This means that the map should strive for a roughly equal number of constituents per riding, whether it’s rural or urban.
