Row breaks out over signature 'mistake' ahead of election fight
Teresa Davis, who is Mid Suffolk councillor for Debenham, stepped down from the role of parish clerk of Battisford Parish Clerk in 2024 after taking responsibility for adding a signature copy to an official finance document without the person's knowledge.
Mrs Davis, Mid Suffolk councillor for Debenham, says that the situation was a "mistake" and may have involved using an old document or copying from a previous year’s form.
As parish clerk, she was responsible for the annual parish council precept form in question. She added that she resigned as an "honourable step", not an admission of forgery.
Cllr Davis said: "This allegation relates back to an incident in May 2024, so I am surprised and disappointed that it has only been brought up now, six weeks before an election where I am a candidate standing against the leader of Suffolk County Council."
