Medical company sees storage bid face serious flooding concerns
Mediquip, a family-run business based in Bungay, submitted an application to East Suffolk Council in January seeking permission to construct a storage building on land off Nethergate Street.
Bungay Town Council advised the district council to reject the proposal for the land near the River Waveney over flooding concerns.
In a document the committee said it "recommended refusal and had serious concerns regarding drainage and the increased risk of flooding".

To support its bid, Mediquip commissioned a Flood Risk Assessment, which confirmed the site spans three flood zones.
However, the report found by consulting various geographic data that "it can be seen that the area intended for the proposed extended storage building is set above all modelled present day flood levels and extents".
"Therefore, the area intended for the proposed extended storage building is set entirely within Flood Zone 1, with much of the remainder of the site," the report added.
Flood Zone 1 is considered the lowest-risk category for flooding.

Despite this, a separate land-contamination assessment included in the application stated the overall property carries a high risk of flooding.
That report said: "The property's overall risk assessment for past flooding and river, coastal, surface water and groundwater flooding is high."
The proposed storage unit measures approximately 84 square metres and would have a powder coated steel colour roof and walls to match an existing adjacent dark grey building.
Drawings show the proposed storage unit would have two galvanised steel valley gutters and be sat on concrete pads.
Founded in 1987, Mediquip offers servicing for medical equipment across both public and private healthcare settings.
East Suffolk Council is expected to make a decision on the application before March 27.
