The Caxton Club, on Gaol Lane in Beccles, is set to host DJ Ray tomorrow after the closure of the Waveney Centre left several dance groups without a home.

Access Community Trust, a Lowestoft-based charity, entered administration last week, causing the sudden shutdown of the centre and leaving almost 100 people out of work in total.

The charity also ran support services for vulnerable people across Suffolk and Norfolk.

Ray Murray, also known as DJ Ray, previously hosted popular dance sessions at the Waveney Centre.

He said: "We only just got dancing up and running over at the Waveney before it closed and we had over 50 people attend so people love it.

"So obviously I heard about the Waveney shutting down which was such a shame, so we went to the Caxton Club in Beccles and they said they were up for it, which I thought was great especially as they won the best club.

"So we've got an event this Friday 2pm to 4pm because since the centre shut there's not really been anywhere to go dancing."

The Waveney Centre had previously hosted three groups - a ballroom dancing group, a line dancing group, and a disco group.

The Caxton Club, founded in 1890, was named Sports and Social Club of the Year at the 2025 Club Mirror Awards.

Club secretary Donna Knights said: "Ray has used the club for private functions and our own events so we were happy to help.

"It's very important to keep these community events going as much as possible and there has been quite a few enquiries regarding it so hopefully it will be a good turn out."

Beccles mayor Barry Darch and town councillors have pledged to fight for the future of the community hub following the charity's collapse.
