Police found Penny Rayner, 63, in the garden of their Great Yarmouth home and her husband of 43 years lying in the bedroom with serious injuries to his head and face following the call on May 24.

She was initially arrested for attempted murder at the scene after telling officers: “I want him gone. I want him dead.”

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told she had been unable to explain why she had “snapped” after 25 years acting as a carer for her ill and vulnerable husband.
