Teen who encouraged girls to self harm is among first to be convicted of new offence
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded guilty to nine charges including encouraging serious self-harm online.
He is among the first people convicted with this new offence that was brought into law under the Online Safety Act 2023 and which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
