In the Dock: Latest offenders sentenced at Norwich Magistrates' Court

Matthew Banks, 34, of no fixed abode, admitted shop theft after stealing a bottle of wine from M&S in Norwich on March 3. Sentenced to eight weeks in prison after magistrates said only a custodial sentence was justified due to previous convictions and recent offences.

Jack Newton, 20, of Northumberland Street, Norwich, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon, namely a wine bottle, on St Benedicts Street on July 23 last year. Sentenced to three months suspended for 12 months, with 10 rehabilitation days and £154 victim surcharge taken from benefits.

Jody Marshall, 34, of Cley Road, Swaffham, admitted to six thefts from Swaffham shops between November 16 last year and March 22, as well as asking for a further five offences to be taken into consideration. Stole alcohol from Tesco, four electric toothbrushes........
