Shop owner loses battle to increase security in town's 'crime hot spot'
David Craik wanted to install external security shutters to East Point Sports and Envy Nails in Bevan Street East, Lowestoft, "due to vandalism in the area".
But his plans were refused by East Suffolk Council despite Lowestoft Town Council's recommendation for approval.
It led to Mr Craik appealing the refusal notice to the Planning Inspectorate, but his appeal has now been thrown out.
The district council believed the shutters would give the area the feeling of being "boarded up" and would harm the visual appearance of existing shopfronts and the Conservation Area.
