The site in Beccles, off the A146 roundabout, operated as a household waste disposal tip until it was shut by Suffolk County Council in 2012.

Since then, it has been used as storage.

However, it was revealed earlier this year that talks were under way between Beccles Town Council and Beccles Fenland Charity Trust, which owns the land, about the possibility of reopening the facility.

But now town councillors have abandoned the plans after the project was deemed "not viable" and are seeking an alternative site.
