Stephen Byard had sought permission from South Norfolk Council in 2023 to build a five-bedroom home in the garden of an existing property in Pound Lane, Ditchingham.

In a planning statement, Mr and Mrs Byard had said their aspiration was to create the property on the patch of unused land to give their family space that they need.

They said: "Our mothers are getting older, and we must think of their care in the future, and our children are growing”.

But, despite support from the parish council and district councillor Chris Brown who described the plans as having "significant merit", the council refused the proposal.
