Assistant headteacher who sent 'inappropriate messages' to pupil avoids ban

Lawrence Lowman, who was an assistant headteacher at Albert Pye Primary School in Beccles, faces no punishment following a misconduct hearing over a text exchange with a pupil.

Mr Lowman was suspended from the school after he was found to have engaged in a series of "inappropriate" messages with a male pupil on Instagram between July 18 and August 19 in 2023.

The texts were instigated by the pupil, who had left the school but was still on the school roll, asking Mr Lowman to follow them back on the platform.

The pupil then messaged "pls" a week later when Mr Lowman didn't respond.

He then responded with "if I was allowed to, I would” and said that it was because the young person was an “ex-pupil/child”.

But after the pupil followed up by saying he was allowed and asked again, Mr Lowman agreed and said “but don’t say........
