Fiona Myhill was driving a Nissan X-Trail which crashed into a Ford Fiesta being driven by 52-year-old Karen Eateen on the B1145 Lynn Road at Rougham, in the west of the county.

She died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn the following day as a result of her injuries.

Norwich Crown Court heard Myhill - who was convicted of drink-driving in May 2014 - was at least one and a half times the legal drink-drive limit following the crash on May 19 last year.

Myhill, now 52, failed a roadside breath test and was found to have 117mcg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80.

Chris Youell, prosecuting, said the defendant had been going round a bend but "struck the inside of the verge".

"As a result she overcorrected," he said.

Mr Youell said she had "over corrected and didn't apply the brake".

The defendant's X-Trail ended up in the opposite lane, resulting in a "head on collision" with the victim, who died from multi-organ failure as a result of the crash.

Mr Youell said Myhill was also on medication, some of which can cause "sedation, including drowsiness" if combined with alcohol.

He added she "clearly was on medication which could've affected her driving and made worse by alcohol".
