Probe into 'smirking' Norwich Labour leaders lets them off the hook

Mike Stonard, Labour leader of Norwich City Council, together with cabinet members Carli Harper and Beth Jones, faced a string of allegations about their behaviour at recent meetings.

The complaints were lodged by Acorn, a group campaigning on behalf of renters in the city, which has been locked in a feud with Labour councillors for months.

It included claims the trio had acted "visibly hostile" towards Acorn activists and were caught "smirking" when they attempted to speak and ask questions at meetings held in September.

However, its members have also been accused of harassing and intimidating councillors themselves through their tactics, a claim Acorn has denied.

After an internal review by the monitoring officer, the official ruled there had been no breaches of the Code of Conduct........
