Community to be evicted from remote 'medieval' settlement on Norfolk Broads
Government officials have ruled in favour of the Broads Authority's proposed enforcement action to remove the structures from the area around the former Berney Arms pub, on the banks of the Yare.
It means several people living in the homes on the property will have to leave in just three months time and find somewhere else to live.

Netty Southgate, one of the residents who will soon be made homeless, said: "The BA are insensitive, callous and have acted without compassion. Thanks for making me homeless again."
The 18th century pub was one of the most isolated in the county, accessible to the general public only by foot or boat.
But after it shut in 2015, it went on to become home to a community of eight people living in the collection of outbuildings, static caravans and boats moored up on the Yare.

While seemingly a peaceful and serene location, in recent years, people have been complaining of out-of-control horses running along paths and aggressive geese attacking them near the site.
The Broads Authority issued an enforcement notice to remove the caravans in 2023, with the then-chairman of the BA, Bill Dickson, describing the living conditions as "medieval".
