Norfolk cottage once owned by Nobel prize winner goes on sale

The Folley is a two/three-bedroom property located in the popular village of Cley-next-the-Sea.

Said to have been built in the early 1700s, the cottage has changed hands only once in the past 58 years.

The property's previous owner was Nobel prize-winning Astronomer Royal, Sir Martin Ryle.

He bought the cottage in 1967 and his widow, Lady Rowena Ryle, continued to use the cottage for the rest of her life.

The current owners took over the property in 2013 and have since had the cottage sympathetically restored, retaining many of its original features, which add to its charm and character.

One of the features is a beam over the fireplace in the sitting room, which is etched with the date of 1711 and is believed to be original to the cottage.
