Simon Jessop, prosecuting, said: "The victim in this case is the defendant's daughter.

"Someone had attended the victim's and defendant's address and proceeds to go in the victim's room. The victim shuts the room and stops the defendant from entering.

"The defendant pushes open the door and a struggle ensues. The defendant is on top of the victim and tries to bite her."

The court heard how Miss Embalo is not living with her mother at home at the moment.

Alistair Taunton, defending, said: "She claims self-defence at the time of the alleged offence which was four months ago.

"The daughter was 17 and she has now turned 18. She declined to be involved and wishes to return home."

Duarte's trial will take place at Norwich Magistrates' Court on January 4 at 10am.

She has been granted conditional bail and must not contact the person - who cannot be named for legal reasons - who witnessed the alleged incident.
