Norfolk police officer took his own life while under criminal investigation

PC Richard Dennis, 42, had been arrested in November 2022 and was being investigated by fellow officers from Norfolk Constabulary.

An inquest into his death, held this week, heard he was due to report for bail on June 30, 2023, but did not turn up, prompting concerns for his welfare.

His estranged wife Leah, who he had met through the police, contacted a mutual friend, PC David Allcock, who was off-duty and went to check up on him.

On-duty officers were later called to the scene and his body was found hanging in a stable near a caravan where he was living in the Drift, Ingoldisthorpe.

The hearing, at Norfolk Coroner's Court, was not told the nature of the allegations against PC Dennis and Norfolk Constabulary has refused to provide more details.

His death came at a time when the force was carrying out a series of misconduct investigations in an effort to identify........
