The Forestry Commission awarded £75,000 to Dereham Town Council last year for its park in Neatherd Moor.

The money will allow the council to plant two hectares of woodland, with 4,800 trees planned over the next three years.

A footbridge was also included as part of the funding and was installed at the park last year, along with landscaping of the area to create a raised path.

A spokesman for Dereham Town Council said the park will "provide a facility for people" and create "a diversity of habitats to help wildlife adapt to climate change".

The origins of the project date back to 2008, when the council commissioned a green infrastructure study in the town.

This involves bridging Neatherd Moor in the west with Etling Green in the east in order to form a vast area of open space for the public.

It is hoped that the project will benefit people and wildlife in the town for future generations.
