1,380 homes redevelopment of key waterfront sites to take big leap forward
A new planning document to help bring forward development on "largely redundant" land in Kirkley, Lowestoft, is being recommended for adoption.
Part of the land has been the target of arson attacks, vandals and trespassers.
East Suffolk Council's cabinet will meet next Tuesday, July 8 at Melton to discuss the Kirkley Waterfront Planning Position Statement.
The document supports the mixed-use redevelopment of a 60-hectare site (148 acres) in south Lowestoft that includes 1,380 new homes, a retirement community, employment land and a primary school.
Kirkley Waterfront, located on the south side of Lake Lothing, consists of vacant land, derelict factory buildings, employment and marina facilities, an unmanaged County Wildlife Site, former factory playing fields and a football pitch.

The land is in multiple ownerships and some of the site has been developed, but much remains vacant or underused.
