Prison officer died after taking cocaine following night shift at HMP Norwich
The drug reacted with Nathan Pizzey’s prescribed antidepressant sertraline and a pre-existing heart condition, causing a fatal heart attack.

The 38-year-old was found unresponsive in his bedroom at his grandmother’s home in Tavern Lane, Diss, on January 5, 2026.
An inquest at Norfolk Coroner's Court heard Mr Pizzey had returned home from work at about 8am, taken a bath and gone to bed ahead of another night shift that evening.
His grandmother, Maureen Pizzey, said she spent the day trying to avoid disturbing him.
When it was time to wake him for work, she knocked on his bedroom door but received no response.

She found him kneeling beside his bed and told the court she immediately feared he had died and called 999.
Paramedics went upstairs immediately, but Mr Pizzey was confirmed dead shortly after 5pm.
Police officers searching the room found a small plastic bag containing traces of a white powder suspected to be cocaine at the bottom of a rubbish bag.
