Eleanora Folan – a transwoman, a biological male who identifies as a woman – has been elected as the female representative for the east of England on the party’s internal council, its highest ruling body.

This body is responsible for the Greens’ national governance and strategy, including in Norwich, where the party holds a majority under leader Lucy Galvin.

The self-described “mentally ill”, “proud anti-Zionist trans woman”, won a seat on the ruling body by just six votes in a poll among members.

The activist, who runs the Stats for Lefties social media account, stood for election in Norwich in 2024, running as the Green candidate in Lakenham under the name Ell Folan.

The activist came second with 452 votes with 18.4pc of the vote behind Carli Harper, the now leader of the Norwich Labour group who won with 1,433 votes.
