The plastic coverings left many drivers and pedestrians passing by perplexed.

But they in fact mark the beginning of a new era of speed limits on stretches of the A140 Cromer Road at Hainford, Hevingham and Stratton Strawless.

The new signs were installed on Thursday, and the bin bags are being removed today as the legal order comes into force.

People living along the route have campaigned for years for a speed limit, recounting cars and motorbikes racing past at 100mph, fences........
