Norfolk council says it will NOT introduce second homes tax

Breckland Council has confirmed it will not bring in a 100pc council tax premium on second homes despite approving the option to introduce the measure last year.

The decision has set the authority apart from other councils in Norfolk, where the charge has already been rolled out in a bid to tackle housing shortages and “hollowed out” communities in communities dominated by holiday properties.

Under the rules introduced through the Government’s Levelling Up and Regeneration Act, authorities can double council tax on second homes to encourage properties back into full-time use.
