The attack happened at Thorpe St Andrew School near Norwich at around 10.20am on Wednesday.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended and the school was locked down for more than two hours, with students being told to duck under their desks and teachers barricading the doors.

After a search, a 15-year-old boy, who is a pupil at the school, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and he remains there in custody.

The victim, also a student at the school, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Laundry Lane, where the school is located, was initially closed but has since reopened, although several police cordons remain in place in and around the site.

A Norfolk Constabulary spokeswoman said: "Officers will be conducting reassurance patrols both at the school and in the area over the coming days."

The incident is not believed to be linked to an antisemitic hate crime that occurred during an under-15s football game at the school last Thursday.
