Council 'lost public confidence' amid potential leadership contest

Julia Ewart, independent ward member for Kelsale and Yoxford, has stated three reasons why she will no longer back the Green, Liberal Democrat, and Independent group (GLI) at East Suffolk Council which could challenge its majority.

The decision could trigger a turbulent series of negotiations between the current leadership group and Labour and Conservatives, carried out without an election.

Mrs Ewart says the decision is down to “aggressive leisure developments being forced through the council”, including the celebrity venue Wilderness Reserve sites in Huntingfield and a new hotel in Yoxford, which she says neglects residents’ concerns.

Meanwhile, she says the Green administration has caused “catastrophic damage” to the environment due to a lack of scrutiny of large projects and house building, despite their environmental pledges.
