Police catch children as young as 10 years old carrying knives on the city's streets
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request by this newspaper has shed more light on the city's ever-growing knife epidemic.
It revealed that almost half of the 127 search and stops carried out by police in the city, between May 2024 and April 2025, were on 10 to 19 year olds.
The reason for the searches was over offensive weapons, bladed or sharply pointed articles.
The startling figures have been described as "worrying" for the county's police crime commissioner.
The numbers are also a stark reminder that more needs to be done to combat knife crime from the mother of a murdered teen.
A total of 14 stop and searches carried out were on people aged 10 to 14 years old, while a whopping 43 were aged between 15 to 19 - which when combined made up 45pc of the searches.
The figures also showed that just 29 arrests were made off the back of the searches - just 23pc with 78 outcomes resulting in no further action.
Norwich East came out with the most searches with 87, while Norwich North was the least at just eight.
The searches were male-dominated, with 115 compared to just 12 female.
