Antony Read, 46, went to the assistance of a stranger in distress in Dereham Road but was attacked by the very man he tried to help.

Mr Read was left with serious injuries, including a broken nose and fractured eye socket.

The victim said the assault, which happened at around 6:30 pm on November 18 near the Sweet Briar Road roundabout, has “completely knocked his confidence” and could see him having surgery.
