Plans to shut down village primary school take step forward as notice given
Cantley Primary School unveiled controversial plans to merge with the neighbouring school in Freethorpe last month against a backdrop of dwindling numbers.
The school has seen a steady decline in pupil in recent years and did not receive a single application for September 2025.
The situation sparked the merger plan, with a consultation into the proposals closing last week.
The move was met with protests from parents in the village, with a petition against it signed 466 times.
However, school leaders have confirmed the plan is now moving onto the next phase - a formal public notice period running until July 16.
