Cantley Primary School was not set to welcome a single new pupil in September, following a period of dwindling numbers.

Proposals to merge the school with neighbouring Freethorpe Primary School were revealed earlier this year, with the shrinking pupil numbers placing the site under financial pressure.

However, they were met with uproar from parents, who started a petition looking to fight the plans.
