Police arrested the man on suspicion of arson endangering life in connection with the incident that caused devastation at the Old Mill pub in Drayton last week.

He was taken to Aylsham police station for further questioning but has since been released on police bail while the investigation continues.

Landlords Mark and Carol Wenn, who also lived in a flat at the pub, were awoken to the sound of their fire alarm ringing and smoke overwhelming the building shortly after 3.30am last Monday.

Fire crews and police officers rushed to the scene and worked to stop the blaze.

Over the weekend, the couple, who had to vacate their home, issued a statement in the aftermath of the fire to help the police with their investigation.

Their Facebook post reads: "On Monday, April 13, our business was the target of a serious firebomb attack.

"As a result, the premises has been forced to close, and both our business and home have been severely affected.

"Due to the extent of the damage, my family and I have had to vacate and are currently unable to live there.

"This has been an incredibly difficult time for us, but we want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out with support, kindness and offers of help.

"It truly means a great deal to us and we are deeply grateful to be part of such a caring community.

"We are currently working closely with the police in their investigation and are asking for your help. If anyone has any CCTV footage, Ring doorbell recordings, or any information from between 2.30am and 3.45am on Monday, please come forward.

"Even the smallest detail could be important."
