Probe into mystery health centre illness continues as gas leak ruled out

Caister Health Centre remained shut yesterday (Wednesday) after an incident the day before saw two women needing hospital and a further five assessed at the scene.

Initially, paramedics thought it was due to "possible gas exposure" but that has since been ruled out.

A spokesperson for Cadent, the local gas network, said an engineer attended the location and carried out a full inspection of the site, but there were no gas readings, and no carbon monoxide alarms had been activated.

The gas supply to the site had already been turned off following a similar incident on April 29.

That earlier episode saw 16 people fall ill, with four making their own way to hospital.

Despite both incidents, health officials have yet to identify the cause behind the symptoms.........
