Landau drivers lament decline of 'dying trade' as fare rise rejected

Fifty-five years ago, holidaymakers visiting the Golden Mile would have seen as many as 39 carriages lined up along the promenade.

Today, only four landau drivers remain - and with the borough council recently rejecting a proposed fare increase, some fear the end of the line may be near.

Ronnie Bilyard, 71, who first began driving landaus more than half a century ago, says the tradition is fading fast.
