The appeal is urging Norfolk County Council to improve safety at the crossing, which sits on Ingham Road in Stalham, on the often busy route between Stalham High School and the Batchelors Loke housing estate.

Emily Howe, who set up the petition, said: "This area, especially the pedestrian crossing, is supposed to be a safe zone for children and residents, but it has turned into a hazardous spot."

She said she has faced near-misses when trying to cross there.
