Pivotal Norfolk road 'at risk' unless extra money can be found, say council leaders

Norfolk County Council leaders said if extra funding cannot be found it would not be able to deliver the West Winch Housing Access Road, because of a shock rise in costs to divert two gas mains.

But the Conservative-controlled cabinet at County Hall agreed on Monday (December 1) to press on with the process over the road, including finding a contractor to design and build it and to obtain land needed for the project.

The 1.5-mile, single-lane carriageway scheme, to connect the A47 and A10 south of King's Lynn, is seen as crucial to serve 4,000 homes planned for the West Winch area.
