Just hours after Norfolk County Council's planning committee voted to agree plans for the West Winch Access Road, near King's Lynn, council leaders revealed their frustration at the rising cost of the project.

They said an estimate given by National Gas Transmission to divert two high pressure gas mains has shot up to £24.5m, from the £4m estimate in 2021 and the £10.5m estimate given by the National Grid-owned company last year.

It means the bill has increased from £109m - which included a £12m risk contingency - to £121.8m.
